There are some off-road tires that make you feel like you are driving off-road even when you aren’t. Off-road tires, because they are designed to work as well on loose gravel and dirt as on the highway at top speed, sometimes fail to succeed on either terrain. But if you are looking for a smooth, comfortable and very quiet ride on the highway while still maintaining ultimate traction off-road, then the Yokohama Geolander A/T-S is the tire you should be looking at.

The Yokohama Geolander A/T-S is designed specifically for drivers who do more than their fair share of driving on dirt and loose rocks or even do a bit of climbing. If you live in an area of the country with plenty of snow, then you will appreciate the added winter weather traction that they provide. What’s more is that when you get back on the highway, it will feel like you are on high-performance tires.

Yokohama is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of tires and stands by all of its products. The Yokohama Geolander A/T-S comes with a five-year, 50,000-mile warranty and a five-year workmanship and materials warranty. This means that you can rest assured that the investment you are making in your tires will continue to pay off for you for years to come.

The traction in this tire is accomplished through a series of intermediate blocks and grooves that are staggered off-center. They are able to provide incredible off-road traction, and when the weather gets bad, they are equally able to shed ice and snow. They come with sidewall protectors that help to eliminate the chances for sidewall cuts from stones, rocks or stumps along the way. This can really help to increase the life of your tire.

The internal structure of the tire is made from two steel belts that are wound spirally with nylon, on top of polyester body plies. This structure, added to the symmetric design in the tread, will lead to a smooth ride on all surfaces. You might even forget that you are riding on off-road tires.

If you are looking for a tire that will take you comfortably for long drives on the highway as easily as it takes you up a mountain or through a snowstorm, then this is most likely the tire for you. In its class, it is extremely affordable and provides everything you could want in an off-road/on-road SUV or jeep tire.

Buy or Don’t Buy?

Finding the right off-road tire that still gives you a comfortable ride on the road can be hard, yet when it comes to the Yokohama Geolander A/T-S, this doesn’t seem to be a problem. It is designed to give great traction on any terrain while still being almost as smooth as a road tire. If you want a comfortable ride for your Jeep, pickup truck, SUV or crossover, then you can’t go wrong with this one. You will get years’ worth of great riding on a set of Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S tires.

  1. Can u tell me about the geolander m/t I want a hardcore mudd tire but im still goin to be drivin on the road and snow and want to get atleast 2 years out of it

  2. I’ve read a lot of positive reviews at Tire Rack. about Geolander MT. People say they are great in snow and mud. Some say they are noisy. One guy said they weren’t. Subjective I guess.

Very cool looking tire. But, it’s the #6 rated tire in the maximum traction off road tire section at Tirerack. I’d seriously look at the BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM2, it’s the #1 rated tire in this category.

  3. We live in the mountains in North Carolina. We are considering new tires for our 2003 Dodge Ram Truck 1500 with a hemi. We currently have BFG A/T, but have had really poor milage (27,000) Looking at the Yokohama Geolander A/T-S versus the Cooper Discoverer A/T3. I also drive to Florida once in a while. Would like your comments on which tire would be the best. Thank you.

  4. Hi Carolyn,

Sorry for the late reply, I’ve been traveling for days and unable to type you a response.

The Cooper AT3 is a way better tire than the Geolander AT-S. I base this on how the AT-S ranks number 8 in this customer survey.

Though the Cooper tire isn’t in the survey above, it’s a top 3 tire compared to what’s listed there.

  5. Joe,

I have a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 Mega Cab. It is a 450+hp diesel and I need the best winter and general use tire. The size is 37 x 12.50 or 13.50-17. I have read about and number of different tires, but the ratings on the same tire are all over the place. I have seen one tire rated at a 5 for snow by one person and as a hockey puck by another on the same site. What do you suggest?

  6. Hi Joe, I am trying to decide which tire is the better choice for my 04 Silverado. The Dynapro ATM RF10 or the Geolander A/T S. I will be getting them in 315 75 16. Which tire will give me the longest tread life? 95% highway driving. Thank you for your reply.
