Pirelli Scorpion ATR Review

Pirelli Scorpion ATR TireFinding a tire that is as good off-road as it is on-road has long been a challenge. However, the Pirelli Scorpion ATR is turning into that very tire. Pirelli has proven once again that it knows how to create the perfect tire for all situations, and no matter what type of pickup or SUV you are driving, you should find that driving it is a lot more fun when you’ve got your set of Pirelli Scorpion ATR tires on.

When you have an SUV or a truck, there is a tendency to drive in a way that takes you over curbs, over rocks and out into the backwoods without fear for your tires. But if you don’t have off-road tires, you could find yourself tearing through them very quickly. The Pirelli Scorpion ATR is an excellent combination of off-road strength and maneuverability with on-road comfort and safety. Add to that the fact that they tend to seriously outlast their warranty, and you get perhaps the best bargain in this type of tire.

These tires are made from independent tread blocks that are siped. This provides better edges that give you more traction in off-road situations, especially when you are driving in loose rock or soft snow. In addition, the internal structure is made from two steel belts that are wrapped with nylon cord. This makes driving at highway speeds safe and predictable and also ensures that you get a quiet ride no matter where you are or how you are driving.

Most drivers of SUVs, light trucks and crossover vehicles of all kinds have found that it has long been a challenge to find an off-road tire that they wouldn’t mind driving on for hours at a time on the highway, but it seems like this might be the one. Most reviewers find that this tire is extremely adaptable, and even after a long stretch of off-road driving, it is able to head back out onto the city streets with no problems at all.

When it comes to weather situations, Pirelli has created a tire that really does make it safe to drive in the rain, the snow, loose gravel and city streets – all in safety, with comfort and without the loud noise you would normally get from off-road tires. This high level of acoustic comfort is worth the price alone, but when you also keep in mind that they will protect you from hydroplaning or losing traction off-road, then you realize how well-designed they are.

Buy or Don’t Buy?

Keeping in mind that most people who have reviewed these tires have claimed to get over twice as many miles as is warrantied, I think that is testimony to the quality of the Pirelli Scorpion ATR. For multi-use (on-road/off-road) tires, they are extremely affordable, and when you keep in mind that they will last you a good part of the next decade, they are an even better buy. As the owner of a SUV or a small pick-up truck, you could not do better than the Pirelli Scorpion ATR according to some people.

  1. Had a set on a BC winter vehicle, a 2007 Escape, drove that thing everywhere to ski, paraglide and hike and bike, awesome tire in adverse conditions, tread life was exceptional. Getting a set for my avalanche.
