Blizzak DM-V1 Review

Blizzak DM-V1
Blizzak DM-V1

Blizzak DM-V1 is a directional light truck/SUV studless ice and snow winter tire and carry’s the mountain snow flake symbol. The first half of the tread life is made up of Bridgestone’s multicell Z compound which has millions of little bubbles and tubes to deal with the water that is on the surface of packed snow and ice.

When the tire gets to the 50% mark, a wear bar is visible that lets you know you’re at the half way mark. This is where the compound changes to a winter tire compound. In English this means it’s time to get new tires if you want the spider man like traction that new Blizzak’s provide.

Available in sizes from 215/70/15 to 285/45R22, they should have a set to fit any pickup or SUV. In the studless ice and snow category survey at Tirerack, the Blizzak DM-V1 is the number 1 rated tire out of 7 other winter tires surveyed. The results are from users who filled out surveys rating their tires.

Users rated the Blizzak DM-V1 highly for Hydroplaning resistance, wet traction, dry traction, light snow traction, deep snow traction, ice traction, ride comfort, noise comfort and tread wear.

As far as the warranty goes, there is no mileage warranty, but they do guarantee workmanship and materials for 5 years down to 2/32 of tread.

What Others Are Saying

  1. I’ve used the DM-V1 tires now for two winter seasons here in Michigan. I own a 2005 Silverado with 2WD, and have placed over 12,000 miles on the tires. I’m waiting for the tread wear indicator. I’ll buy another set at that moment in time.
I can attest to tires tires “great” ability to handle almost any winter road condition. Ice, 6″ of snow depth, slush, and rain. The tires maintained their grip, and provided confidence. On dry roads, the tires have a “super” grip feeling. You can feel it in the steering wheel when input is applied. Great traction!!!

  2. Thanks for your feedback Allen. It surely helps when folks contribute so others can get a true picture of the tire they’re shopping for.
